Fiber proof testers are designed to apply a set load to a fusion-spliced optical fiber to be able to test the effectiveness of the spliced fiber. Our Fiber Coloring Machine are available in both linear and rotary designs, for proof and tension testing. Fiber proof testers are available for single mode, multimode, and polarization-maintaining fibers. Pick from dedicated, standalone systems or multipurpose designs which are also capable of stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing, and recoating.
Fiber Recoaters with Proof Testers offer easy, integrated answers to recoat and test fusion-spliced fibers. The fiber recoating process restores the buffer coating to a stripped fiber, offering more flexibility than a heat-shrink protection sleeve, enabling so that it is handled and coiled with no damage to the fusion-spliced section. The integrated linear or rotary proof tester allows users to instantly test a recoated fiber with a pre-determined load and find out the long term reliability of the fiber. Because of their capacity to restore a fusion-spliced fiber to near original condition, these systems are perfect for applications like undersea optical fiber cables, submarine communication cabling, fiber lasers, or Distributed Bragg Reflector (DBR) lasers.
The process starts with the fusion-spliced portion of fiber being placed in the middle of the mold assembly (see image off to the right). Once placed in position, inserts within the fiber blocks secure the spliced fiber set up. Recoat material is pumped to the cavity and then UV-cured. The recoated fiber can then be tested by pulling on it as much as a pre-determined load.
Recoater and Mold Assembly Options
Recoaters can be purchased with either an automated or manual mold assembly. The Secondary Coating Line features pneumatic control over the mold plates and it is optimized for top-volume manufacturing applications. Manual mold assemblies, on the contrary, use hinged mold plates that provide more flexibility and are best for low-volume manufacturing or R&D applications. A computerized or manual volumetric dispensing pump and injection product is used to inject the recoat material in to the mold cavity.
The PTR208 automatic recoater comes standard using a mold assembly for Ø430 µm coated fibers; For our manual recoaters (Item #s PTR206, PTR206B, PTR307, and PTR307B), the mold assembly is sold separately to ensure that customers can choose the best mold coating diameter for his or her application. Custom mold coating sizes can be found as much as Ø900 µm. Pre-setting up the mold assembly in the factory is also available. We offer both high-index (Item # AB950200) and low-index (Item # PC373) recoat materials to use during these recoaters. Recoaters with manual injection pumps (Item #s PTR206B and PTR307B) are compatible with both types of recoat material; all the other recoaters are suitable for the high-index material only. Our manual recoaters with an automatic injection system (Item #s PTR206 and PTR307) can be customized to do business with both the low- and high-index recoat material; please contact Tech Support for more information.
Proof Tester Options
The PTR206, PTR206B, and PTR208 Fiber Recoaters come with an incorporated linear proof tester, which takes the fiber up to a predetermined load (20 N) and then releases it. The linear proof tester uses the identical fiber holding blocks as the recoater and thus the fiber does not must be moved just before testing. The PTR307 and PTR307B Fiber Recoaters have Optical Fiber Ribbon Machine, which could perform both proof and tension tests (?89 N). One list of proof test grips is included; replacement proof test grips can be found below in packs of 10. Each testing process is fully programmable through the included handset or tablet controller, allowing the user to choose parameters like the load, the pace at fseejm the stress is used, as well as the hold time.
Inserts for Fiber Holding Blocks
In addition to the above, we provide a number of inserts to be used within the fiber holding blocks from the recoaters to be able to support an array of fiber coating diameters. For recoaters using a rotary proof tester, the inserts are suitable for fiber coating diameters in a range between 125 µm to 900 µm. For recoaters using a linear proof tester, the inserts cover a range for fiber coatings from Ø250 µm to Ø900 µm.
